Do I need to wear two hearing aids?

If you have hearing loss in both ears, it's advisable to use two hearing aids. Research shows that using only one hearing aid can cause the poorer ear to deteriorate more rapidly than if you wear hearing aids in both ears. Moreover, wearing two hearing aids is often recommended, as it typically results in greater satisfaction than using just one.

Is OTC hearing aids the same as amplifiers?

OTC hearing aids are not the same as hearing amplifiers. While OTC hearing aids are pre-programmed for certain types of hearing loss and don’t require a prescription, Explore Li+ hearing aids are different, they are similar to prescription style hearing aids.

Explore Li+ are customized specifically to your hearing loss rather than being pre-set. This approach is better because it allows for a more personalized hearing experience. Customized settings address your unique hearing needs, ensuring that specific frequencies and sounds you struggle with are amplified correctly. This tailored solution can lead to improved clarity and comfort, making it easier to understand speech and enjoy daily activities, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all solution that may not effectively meet your needs.

Do I need a smartphone to use Explore Li+ OTC Bluetooth Hearing Aids?

No, a mobile phone is not required to use our hearing aids. Explore Li+ OTC Bluetooth Hearing Aids will work independently without one. However, in order to access the self-adjusting features like volume control, frequency adjustments, noise reduction, and directionality settings, you'll need a mobile phone to use the HA FIT App with the Explore Li+ OTC Bluetooth Hearing Aids. Even without a phone, these hearing aids are built to improve your hearing experience.

What is the purpose of the dome on the hearing aid?

The dome’s purpose is to seal the ear canal, preventing feedback and ensuring the necessary amplification is contained for a comfortable fit in the ear. It also helps keep the hearing aid securely in place.

Which ear dome do I choose?

The dome is a small silicone tip that attaches to the end of your hearing aids, available in various sizes and styles. Choosing the right size and style can improve both sound quality and comfort.

There are three types of domes: Open, Tulip, and Double. These domes vary in ventilation, meaning how much natural sound they allow in. Your hearing aid comes with a Small Open dome by default, and additional Extra Small Open, Small Open, Medium Tulip, and Large Double and Extra Double are included in your box. If you experience squealing (feedback) or find the Open dome too loose or tight, try adjusting to a different size.

How do I change the dome?

To remove the dome, hold the receiver with one hand and gently pull the dome off with the other hand. To replace the dome, line up the dome hole with the spigot of the receiver. Gently push the dome on. Tug on the dome to make sure it is securely locked onto the receiver before inserting into your ear.

You may refer to the how-to video here regarding the replacement of ear dome. For more information on ear domes, you may read up here.

What do the buttons on the hearing aid do?

The toggle button on the hearing aids controls three things: power on/off, adjusting volume, and switching modes. Both hearing aids are adjusted independently.

Power On/Off: To power on, open the charging case and the hearing aids will turn on when taken out. Alternatively, press and hold the push button for 6 seconds. To turn off the hearing aids, put them in the charging case and close the lid; they will be powered off automatically. Otherwise, press and hold the volume up button for 6 seconds to shut down.

Volume Adjustment: You can adjust the volume to increase the sound level. Each press of the button will increase the volume and a "beep" sound will play in that hearing aid. When the volume reaches its highest point, you will hear a 'ding ding' sound.

Mode Switch: To change modes, press and hold the volume down button for 3 seconds. You will hear the corresponding number of beeps with the mode, indicating the new mode.

You can also review our User Manual here, read our Hearing Aid Guide here or review our How To Videos here.

How do I change the filter?

If your hearing aid isn't working or the sound is too low, the first step is to replace the wax filter.

To do this, remove the dome from the receiver. The wax filter tool has two sides—one to remove the old filter and the other to insert the new one. Use the empty side to gently remove the old filter. Then, take the new filter on the other side of the tool and insert the white tip into the receiver. Press firmly, then remove and discard the tool.

For step-by-step guidance, you can watch the how-to video on replacing the wax filter here.

Will you damage the rechargeable hearing aids by leaving them in the charger overnight?

No, your hearing aids won’t be damaged if left in the charger overnight. However, we recommend removing them from the charger if you won’t be using them for an extended period. Leaving the hearing aids in the charger for several days can significantly reduce battery life.

Will the hearing aids be damaged by leaving them in the charger too long?

Like all electronic devices, it's not advisable to leave the hearing aids in the charging case for an extended period. Even when unplugged, the battery will drain more quickly if left in the case for too long. If you won’t be using the hearing aids for a few days, we recommend storing them outside of the charging case.

What is the battery shelf life of the rechargeable batteries in the hearing aids?

The rechargeable battery is built into the hearing aid and is designed to last for the entire lifespan of the device, which is approximately 3 years.

How do I charge the hearing aids?

It takes 2 hours to fully charge the hearing aids. When fully charged, the dot indicator light will remain on. You can also charge them overnight while you sleep. Once fully charged, the battery lasts around 20 hours.

Charging the Hearing Aids: Place the hearing aids in the charging case and close the lid securely. This will automatically begin charging. A full charge takes 2 hours, and under normal conditions, the battery will last up to 20 hours.

Charging the Charging Case: To fully charge the case, connect it to a power source. It takes up to 3 hours to fully charge both the hearing aids and the charging case.

How do I answer the phone calls with my hearing aids?

For Explore Li+, phone calls can be answered by pushing the button on the back of the hearing aid itself.

How do I turn the hearing aid on / off?

To power on, remove the hearing aids from the charger. Alternatively, press and hold the push button for 6 seconds. To turn off the hearing aids, put them in the charging case and close the lid; they will be powered off automatically. Otherwise, press and hold the volume up button for 6 seconds to shut down.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

How do I put on and remove the hearing aids?

The most important step is to ensure your hands are clean and dry to prevent any dirt or moisture from transferring to the hearing aid. We recommend putting on or removing the hearing aids while sitting on a sofa or bed to avoid dropping them and potentially causing damage.

To wear the hearing aids, position the hearing aid body over the top of your ear. Then, gently pull down and back on your earlobe to facilitate insertion. Hold the wire near the dome and carefully push the dome into your ear canal. When inserted correctly, the dome should not be visible in your canal. You can use your pinky to help with insertion.

To remove the hearing aid, first gently pull the dome out of the ear canal, then gently remove the body from behind your ear. Try to minimize pulling on the wire as much as possible.

Review our User Manual here and our Online Hearing Guide here.

How should hearing aids fit, and how can you tell if they’re not fitting correctly?

Hearing aids are designed to fit snugly in your ear, providing comfort and security for all-day wear without irritation or discomfort. Here are some signs that indicate your hearing aids may not be fitting properly:

  • Pain or discomfort

  • Buzzing or whistling sounds
  • Issues with sound quality or volume
  • Buildup of earwax
  • Devices that don’t stay in place

What should I do if my hearing aids are not charging?

Ensure the hearing aids are properly placed in the portable charger, and plug the charger into power. If issues persist, try using a different power source.

Why are my hearing aids not turning on?

Review the user manual or the Hearing aid Guide here, for assistance. If problems persist, contact customer support.

You will need to re-pair your Explore Li+ hearing aids to your smart device. First, unpair your Explore Li+ Hearing aids in your devices' Bluetooth section. How to prevent moisture from damaging your hearing aids?

Moisture can cause many issues to your hearing aids so it is important to prevent your device against moisture damage.

  1. Extra earwax production traps more moisture in the ear as it takes longer for the ear to dry. Paying more attention to earwax production and change the accessories regularly to keep it wax-free.
  2. Use a dry box as it can remove moisture from the hearing aids.
  3. Sweating can also be an issue so we do not recommend wearing the hearing aids when working out or during activities that may cause sweating, if it can be avoided.

How often and how should I clean my hearing aids to keep them in the best condition?

Regular, routine cleaning and maintenance are the key to maintaining your hearing aids.

Daily / Weekly:

  • Ensure your ears are clean when putting on the hearing aids.
  • Wipe your hearing aids and hearing aid domes with a tissue to remove dirt and oil after each use.
  • Gently brush the dome of the hearing aid with the Eara Hearing Cleaning Tool & Brush.

Monthly:

  • Replace the ear domes and wax filters, every 2-3 months. The need for replacement is that an old dome loses its shape and can hold onto wax. By changing both at the same time, you will ensure your hearing aids are clean and working optimally.
  • If you are unable to hear out of the hearing aid or suspect any issue with the hearing aid: change the wax filter. The most common reason hearing aids do not work is wax inside the hearing aid and this issue can lead to any number of problems occurring.

How to properly store the hearing aids?

Our hearing aids come with a charging case that also serves as a storage solution, and we recommend keeping the aids in the case when not in use. If you live in a humid climate or are likely to expose your hearing aids to moisture, it’s best to store them in a dry box overnight. Avoid storing the hearing aids in moisture-rich environments like the kitchen or the bathroom. Additionally, keep the hearing aids away from children and pets.

What should I do if the hearing aids are not working?

Begin by ensuring the hearing aid is fully charged. Place the hearing aids on the charger and ensure that when they are removed the dot indicator lights are fully charged (if plugged-in). Next, change the wax filters and domes on both hearing aids. If the problem persists, please contact our Customer Support team at support@earahearing.com or you can call us directly at 800-933-0885 for further assistance.

What should I do if there is sound distortion?

It's common to feel a bit odd during the initial period of wearing hearing aids, which can result in a perception of sound distortion. You can reduce the overall volume of the hearing aids which will aid with the sound quality. Additionally, you can reference our Hearing Aid Guide here, which can assist with explaining acoustics and best adjustments to make depending on sound quality. Typically, it takes about 3 to 4 weeks to adjust to the device. If you notice sudden sound distortion, it could be caused by a program issue. Start by changing the wax filter and domes in both hearing aids, if the problems persist, please restart the device and try again. If the problem still persists, contact customer support at: support@earahearing.com or directly at 800-933-0885

What should I do if there is excessive background noise?

Background noise is common amongst all hearing aid wearers. Try changing different programs in the HA FIT APP. To customize settings further, see our Hearing Aid Guide here for guidance on customizing programs for your preference and comfort.

For additional questions, contact our Audiology team by scheduling an appointment here.

What should I do when faced with "feedback" noises such as irregular beeping, squeaky, whistling, etc?

If you are a new user: Try reducing the volume of the hearing aids within the HA FIT APP to a more comfortable level.

If noises are still coming from your hearing aids, you will need to switch to a larger size dome.

After changing domes to a larger size, complete the in-app hearing test again. The Explore Li+ hearing aids will adjust with the new domes in place and provide more appropriate volume.

Should the sounds continue to occur contact customer support at: support@earahearing.com or directly at 800-933-0885

If you are an experienced user of Explore Li+ hearing aids (used the hearing aids longer than 2 months): If you have only recently noticed the sounds coming from your hearing aids, try changing the domes and wax filters in both hearing aids.

If you are increasing the volume more than what you previously were listening to, try increasing the dome size (Small to Medium or Medium to Large) and then repeat the hearing test in the HA FIT APP.

Should the sounds continue to occur contact customer support at: support@earahearing.com or directly at 800-933-0885
